AMERICAN MILITARIA

USA-346   1903-1905  U.S. ARMY OFFICER’ COLLAR EMBLEM - Effective July 1903 and for two years thereafter, officers wore eagles of this type, instead of the letters "US", on their collar.  General Pershing selected the 1903-1905 collar eagle as his insignia when he became General of the Armies.  This one is 1 ¼”wide and about 1 3/8” tall, the three small attachment rings on its reverse are missing, die stamped construction.  Overall condition is very good……$60   Photos

USA-347   1919-1922 ARMY QUARTERMASTER EQUIPMENT DISK - A bronze colored infantry equipment marker, introduced in 1919 and used only two or three years.  A man’s unit number could be stamped on the blank strip.  Three prongs allowed the insignia to be fastened to web gear, and the disk served to identify the owner.  This disk has never been used and is in great condition…….$35   Photos

USA-348   OLD MEDICAL SERVICE CLOTH PATCH - I am not sure what era this is from, I have black lighted the white portion and it does not glow so it was probably manufactured in the early part of the twenty century.  Brown colored cloth with a cut out in the center with an embroidered medical insignia on a white background, patch is a rectangular shape with the edges sewed.  Overall condition is very good, measures about 2 3/8” X 3 3/4”……$35   Photos

P-603  TENTING ON THE PLAINS BY ELIZABETH CUSTER - Tenting on the Plains was originally published in 1887, Elizabeth Custer chronicles the journey with her legendary husband, General George A. Custer, from the time of his leaving the Army of the Potomac in 1865, through Texas, New Orleans, and to the western frontier. General Custer's myth is created, and then magnified, by his wife in the three books she wrote about their life together (Tenting is the first in chronological order, although it was the second of the three to be published). Her descriptions of the daily rigors of travel, survival, and the people encountered, have become classic historical literature – and in this case, enlivened by the perceptive eye and mind of a woman who, in her own right, became a heroine of the time. This book once belonged to the Hollywood Branch Library and the last date inked in it is Jul 17 1931, the outside corners of this one are showing use and there is one page missing (167/168) one side had a picture of the General. U. S. UNIFORMS

USA-354  WWII U.S. ARMY CAPTAINS TUNIC & PANTS - This tunic is a custom made one, there is a manufactures patch sewed to the inside, it says "Customized by Hickey-Freeman Expressly for Hastings California".  Inside the interior packet there is a white information tag, no information was ever written on it.  The captains bars have needle pin back and are both marked on their reverse "Sterling" and do have some tarnishing to their surfaces.  This tunic is for a tall man, there are no size markings on it.  Consignor told me that he thinks that this one is a size 44, if you lay the tunic down flat on its back with the front facing you and measure straight across the front from one shoulder seam to the other it measures around 20 1/2".  Measuring from the top of the neck down to the bottom edge of the front it measures around 33 1/2".  The gold buttons are all in excellent condition, the three larger ones are all maker marked on their reverse "Waterbury Button Co., Conn.".  Smaller buttons have "Superior Quality" on their reverses.  There is some mothing on this one and there have been some professional repairs done to some of those areas.  At the bottom of the right sleeve on the inside facing there are three repaired spots, on the outside facing there is one, some slight nips scattered over this sleeve.  Left sleeve has two repaired spots on the lower cuff portion, one facing to the inside and one facing to the outside, there is also some nips scattered on this sleeve.  Right front lapel has one repaired spot and a few moth nips.  Left lapel has moth nipping just above the first button.  There are some very small nips on the front mostly on the left side down towards the bottom.  The belt is with this one and the gold finish on the buckle is still very good.  The pants are size 44" long and have a waist of 40", very clean and have a manufacturing tag sewed on the in inside.  The hook and catch above the zipper are both marked "Talon", the zipper is marked "42" on one side and the other has a "Z" and below that "USA", zipper pull tab is also marked "Talon".  The zipper works fine, all of the buttons are present.  On the right upper front there is a large professionally repaired area, there is also a small moth hole at the front crouch.  Hand written on the interior back of one of the pockets is "EASLEY" which would probably be for the original owner, hard to find these original WWII Army uniforms in the larger sizes.......$165   Photos

USA-356  US ARMY ARTILLERY LIEUTENANTS  TUNIC, PANTS, BELT & TIE - This is a larger sized one, probably around a 44.  Has a 13 piece ribbon bar which is a clutch back, the "US" and crossed cannons are clutch back also, I do not know what each individual ribbon is for.  Both of the silver Lieutenants bars are showing tarnish, one of them is marked "Sterling" on its reverse, both of these bars are pin backs.  All the buttons are present and in very good condition.  Both sleeves have the stripe on them just above the cuff.  Has its waist belt which is attached on the backside with snaps.  There is a tag sewed onto the inside neck which says "Quality by Kuppenheimer", another tag sewed at the interior slant pocket says "Tailored Exclusively for Sachs-Parker Co., Tucson, Ariz.".  The interior of the inside slash pocket has two tags in it, one is a manufacture applied one that the owner would write his name etc., this one has not been written on.  The second tag says that the garment was Union made.  The tunic is just not quite as dark in color as its WWII counterpart, from what I have been told this one must be from the Korean War.  The condition of  this one is extremely nice.  There is a tan colored tie that is in great shape.  Pants have a belt with them, the slider buckle is brass and is marked on the reverse as such, the owners name is ink stamped onto the back of the belt.  These pants do not have tags on them that I can find, in the inside seam of one of the back pockets you can see where a small tag was ripped out. On the inside stamped on the pockets are many laundry numbers. Pants measure around 46" long, it appears to be at least a 36" waist size or maybe a little bigger, condition is very good......$110   Photos

USA-355  U.S. ARMY OFFICERS WOOL SHIRT - Very nice green wool Army shirt, condition is like new.  There is a tag sewed onto the back neck interior which says "True Fit, All Wool, U.S. Army Officer's Regulation Shirt, London Shrunk Fabric".  There are no size markings on this one.  Laying it down flat facing me I measured straight across the shoulders and it comes out to 18", measuring from the top of the neck to the bottom it measures around 32", very seldom do you encounter a original Officer's shirt in such good condition, doubt that it was ever worn.......$85   Photos

NEW LISTING   USA-363   WWII 6TH DIVISION ARMY JACKET -  This tunic is for a Staff Sergeant in the 6th Infantry Division,  is size marked as a “37 L”, there are no other markings or tags on it and it is very well constructed and has a 6th Infantry Division patch on one shoulder.  On the lower left sleeve there are 2 combat bars and one time in service hash.  Only the screw back “US” brass is on one lapel, all the other brass is missing as is the ribbon bar, it does have the belt hanging hooks sewed onto the tunic.  There is a Ruptured Duck patch sewed on also there are a couple of small moth holes in the front, nothing bad, about mid section, other than that it is a very clean tunic.  This jacket is part of a 3 piece set that included USA-365 WWII Army Enlisted Man’s Pants and USA-364  WWII Army Enlisted man’s Visor Cap ……$135   Photos

NEW LISTING   USA-368   AMERICAN WWII ARMY REPLACEMENT & SCHOOL COMMAND JACKET – This Jacket is in very clean condition and has a Ruptured Duck patch sewed to the right breast, the brass on the collars both have clutch backs on them, one is a “US” and the other crossed rifles for the Infantry.  All of the buttons are present and some of them are showing some signs of ageing.  On the left hand shoulder there is a patch for the Replacement  School Command, the interior is well marked around the neck area, has “N3609” a couple of times and “L1699” also the owners name “Lyle”, marked “42” as to its size.  On the underside of one of the pockets it is marked in pen :”39041669”.  There are no signs of it ever having had any rank patches sewed on the sleeves so I am assuming that this may have been of  a junior officer although there are no belt hooks on it and it does not appear that there ever were.  This one does have 4 places on the front by the buttons that have very small holes and one on the back, noting really bad, could be easily repaired with a little effort……$85   Photos

Sewed to the backside of the right front pocket is a tag that reads “Phila.
