M-718  UNKNOWN MEDAL - ARTS? - This is a large Maltese cross which has an outer line of red enamel with an inner cross of white enamel.  I am told that these were made "Mardi Gras" pieces,  towns would make them for participants in their yearly pre-lent celebrations. It measures 2 1/2" wide from left to right and top to bottom.  Two of the points are bent a bit and the red enamel is chipped as it looks like it may have been dropped.  Has a ring of leaves in the center with a white enameled disk in the center of it, this disk has what looks like a clowns hat on it.  There is a hanging ring at the top and it is maker marked on the reverse "H. Werner, Westw 75".  This is a very neat looking medal.......$40   Photos
